What it does
Contingency Mode replaces the previous Mode-Off mechanism with a modernized approach to payment resilience. Instead of relying on rigid activation thresholds and fixed retry intervals, Contingency Mode detects connector instability more accurately, applies authorization deferrals with more precision, and manages recovery in a way that minimizes unnecessary delays. Provider communication becomes more transparent, giving merchants and internal teams better visibility into what is happening during an incident.
Benefits
- Fewer failed transactions: More accurate instability detection prevents unnecessary authorization deferrals, reducing transaction failures during connector incidents.
- Less operational disruption: Smarter retry behavior and recovery management reduce the downstream impact on order flow when a provider is unstable.
- Better visibility: Improved provider communication and status transparency help teams understand the scope and duration of an incident without relying on manual investigation.
How to use
Contingency Mode is in Early Access. Contact VTEX Support to enable it for your account. No changes to existing payment connector configurations are required once activated.
